Quick question

Thread Starter
Well the PC I currently have is

i7 930 @3.37GHz, 6GB DDR3 RAM, and two HD 5770 graphics cards in CrossFire.

My question is will this PC last until Ivy bridge or something comes out? The problem is I can not upgrade the motherboard in this PC, Or overclock it. So will this last until ivy bridge or something then I will build my own PC then.

I am looking to get at least a year or 2 from this, then build my own PC with the latest stuff. Reason is because I need to save money, and I just got this (Was mistake, well learned.)

Question 2: Will the future processors like Ivy bridge be as easy to overclock as sandy bridge? I don't see why not.

Well, Thanks!

Yes, that won't be going obsolete any time soon.

IVY bridge should be out by the end of this year so yes that system will last you until then. It would even last you until the next chip after IVY (haswell) or even until rockwell right after haswell

What mobo do you have now? Alienware?

Did they lock down the Bios on those? I know the old ones (before Dell bought them) were unlocked for OC'ing.

Yeah they did, that is why Alienware is garbage. You can't even upgrade the motherboard or anything. So my plan is to use this for some time, then build my own. That is why I am trying to see how long this thing will last.

Is this a serious question? I ran a dell with a P4 in it with a 64Mb gfx card for 6 years no problem.

Your set up should be fine for several years unless you have a burning desire to stay at the absolute cutting edge. A set up like that when well maintained should be good for several years. Most people who buy a computer get it with the intent of using it for 2-4years minimum.
