How to upgrade? Which way to lean?

Currently I have a 5770, running with one 23" monitor at 1080p. Who knows, I might get another monitor, that's for later though. More and more I am getting into PC gaming vs console, and have noticed that on some games, my card can't handle it. I played Dead Rising 2 and Mass effect1/2 and I'm getting some low fps here and there and lag.

I also just prepurchased Dragon age 2 and I NEED to see it in all of its glory, I can't live with that lag. I play DA Origins just fine though.

My question is how do I upgrade from here? Should i just be cheap and buy another 5770 and xfire them? How long will that last me though? Should I buy a 6950 and unlock it to a 70? Or Do i look at the nvidia xxx?

Other Specs

1 x ATI 5770
750 Watts PSU

The big question is: What is your budget? How much do you care and want to spend?

Toms Hardware .com has charts where you can compare x2 5770's to a single cards.

According to the chart, a GTX 480 would be a little bit faster than x2 5770's in crossfire. A GTX 470 would be a little bit slower than x2 5770's in crossfire.

EDIT AGAIN: EDIT: A 6950 costs 43% more than getting a second 5770 to put in crossfire, but will give you 13% more power. The 6970 will give you 19% more power.

According to Toms Hardware, at Battlefield 2
6970 gets 76.5 fps
6950 gets 71.0 fps, costs $300
GTX 470 gts 66.0 fps, costs $260
x2 5770's gets 62.5 fps, costs $129 (for a single card)
5770 gets 35.4 fps

I can not justify spending $100 more for the 6950, to only get 5 fps.

I would go with a second 5770.

I hope this provides some clarity. Sorry for so 1,000 edits, i keep making math mistakes and thinking of a better way to explain things. I think my math is correct now.

Pretty informative and good points. To the unknowing newbies a new card sounds 1000% better than last years model. But If you xfire/sli last years model it can still do just fine

1) Can we see the model and brand your power supply?
2) The weakest part of your computer is the video card, which is not bad.
3) If you are budget conscious, you should probably upgrade in stages from greatest to least impact:
* Video Card
* CPU
* Memory
* Monitor

Simply adding another 5770 would significantly improve the performance.
