Was pushing it a bit tonight (recklessly) and hit 5.25Ghz @1.59v before BSOD.
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1683461

Ill be back with a safer and stable 5ghz+ clock later (...i hope).

Indeed: the CPU-Z validator I just posted above shows my voltage at 1.592 -- a bit cavalier maybe but I don't know.

I'd really like to see the in-house testing of these chips from intel and asus and guys like that -- namely their statistics on upper limits.

On that note, I found this ASUS rep's comments useful for overclocking 5+ Ghz: Juan_Jose ASUS Technical Marketing Specialist at http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1578110. At least we know their comments are backed by a heap of fried silicon.

Some stats he gives are that only 5% can hit 4.8~5 GHz and only 2% of the top 5% can actually achieve x50+ multipliers. Not provided but he references partly outdated data based on empirical testing for those numbers; so at this point the % of 5+ Ghz chips may well be higher now (suspect that's true).

Later he claims: "Increased range between 50 to 52 (52 generally considered peak max multiplier except for rare 54x parts) will generally require a CPU voltage range between 1.515 to 1.535V with LLC at Ultra High and potential fine adjustments to the CPU skew range."

Interesting stuff; if anyone has more semi-official 5+ Ghz over-clocking sources let me know. ^_^

You're so close, but you'll have to run it again. It CLEARLY states in original post that screen shot MUST BE TAKEN UNDER LOAD. Please comply and you will be in there like swimwear bud.

It also states the specified cpuz and real temp versions that MUST BE USED (links are provided.)

Also a clear note on what Vcore asus recommends, is found under the aptly titled voltage recommendation section (http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1578110):

Quote:
Overall a key item to note is the best voltage to oc scaling range potential for the turbo multiplier is 1.400 to 1.425 vcore.

Using this voltage range with an LLC recommendation of ultra high will generally provide the best scaling potential with proper load temperatures*. We have generally found exceeding this voltage will not provide additional scaling or will increase load temperatures to a high level with synthetic load applications ( like Prime, Linx, OCCT ). Should you use more realistic loading testing (our recommendation is a combination of AIDA64 stress test, PC Mark Vantage) then temperatures under will be considerably under the max TDP rating.

*cooling recommendation and test performed with CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ with Single Fan, this is the minimum recommendation for multis above 46x. For 50+ multis we recommend a dual fan configuration with this cooler or improved cooling.

I can totally say the ULTRA PS has great PSU (search reviews online) and the best customer service i have deal with unlike antec and corsair. I asked for an rma because my psu was scratched since is a glass like finish and they had in front of my door a brand new one withing 2 days no question ask. Apart from the lifetime warranty and that this X3 1000w is powering my rig without a problem (see my sig below) i can rep this brand.

My ultrax3 1000w psu started to flake out after 1 year of regular heavy use. The +3.3v line degraded to 2.9 - 3, the +5.0v degraded to 4.6, and the +12v line was consistently at 11.6. No hardware changes, no sli. AMD 6 core on chiv formula, 2 hdd, 1 dvdburner. No repping from me. Went ax1200 and never looked back....Anyways, back to the point of this thread.....
