edit: Just tried, with 1.525 bios and then 1.54, with LLC1. Then tried 1.45 with LLC2. All BSODed after a few minutes. Any more suggestions? It's interesting how the voltage drops at load when the settings are set like this, care to explain the reason behind this?
That's interesting.
I guess you're best off with F4A.
The problem is, LLC9 is supposed to REALLY overshoot considerably. But when the BIOS vcore gets up to about 1.5v, it actually stops overshooting. Someone saw LLC10 undershoot when they set it to 1.55v on their board. And, unlike you, they had to set MUCH higher vcores with F3 final than with F3H. (F4A was no different)

It's probably worth taking a DMM and actually measuring the voltages you're getting at load, when you are stable with F4a, and when you are unstable with F3H.

What I noticed on F3 final, (on the UD5), I could set LOWER BIOS voltages, yes, but there were two things that made me go back to F3G.

1) With LLC5, I would get really bad vdroop on some iterations of prime, like it would go from 1.416v load to 1.390v when on the second 15 minute test, and I know that was just too low, With F3G, it would be 1.404 to 1.416v.

2) With LLC6, my 1.445v BIOS setting would sometimes go UP to 1.464v when running a single core game. Then down to 1.416v when using prime.
I didn't like this one bit. Another person on XS saw his vcore at LLC6, in Crysis 2, go from 1.480v idle to 1.52v in Crysis 2, but 1.46'ish in Prime...
That can't be healthy.

Because of that, I just went back to F3G and 1.450v BIOS, 1.404-1.416v load, which is game stable (1.455v BIOS->1.416v load is fully stable).

Really hard to say whats going on without a DMM. But while some people are happy with F3/F4a, still many others are unhappy with the erratic voltage swings.

Just to clear something up, the markings on the back of the CPU refer to the packaging site - not the manufacturing site of the actual silicon chip itself. Intel has no fabs in either Malaysia or Costa Rica, they are packaging facilities. The silicon die/chips are manufactured elsewhere in the world and are shipped to either of these two packaging sites. In addition, Intel manufacturing has a goal of running a "virtual fab" - meaning that, among other things, products from one fab are statistically indistinguishable from those manufactured at another fab. So even if, for example using fake names, Malaysian packages used chips only from fab #1 and packages marked Costa Rica use chips from fab #2, there should be no difference statistically between these two.

I saw these discussions back in the Celeron days, and I commented back then, but this time around it seems a little different. I have started seeing some online retailers charging more for parts from a specific packaging site and this disturbs me. There is no difference between parts from these two packaging sites. Just as you can have 6 head/tails coin tosses come out heads, there may seem to be a correlation that heads is more likely than tails, but there isn't. In reality the odds are still approximately 50/50.

The silicon is what defines the speed of a CPU, not the package. And the silicon comes from multiple fabs scattered all over the place that are all supposed to be identical anyway.

If you are considering spending more, or buying from a shadier vendor, in order to get a specific package, I would urge you to reconsider. There is no difference and you are only wasting money, and or risking getting ripped off.

Lol, I posted this a couple pages back and people are still ga-ga over Costa Rica packaged chips.

As long as folks aren't paying more for them, there's no harm I suppose. It's definitely amazing how rumors spread on the internet don't die even when disproved by a credible source.

What LLC setting and Multiplier?

I'm having the same issues with F4a. I can bump up Vcore but have to back LLC down to 4 or I see high idle Vcore. I've tried lowering Vcore and raising LLC to 5 but I get the same results..higher idle Vcore.

Thanks
