Just thought I would drop a note here about my experience this week. My WHS Vail server wasn't doing its usual backups the last couple of days & wasn't showing up on the network, no rdc to the server. Turns out Vail Beta expired on 1/10/11. I guess I didn't quite know about that happening & my server wasn't working, if I press the power to reset, it would stay alive for a while & then be gone again. I found out yesterday about the expriation. Turns out there is a work around, it involves downloading SP1 installing & then using the "slmgr -rearm" command. After a reboot the expiration is now 3-15-11, so I have a bit more time before they release again. So if any out there are using Vail, I am attaching a link to the workaround instructions. There is a post a bit further down the page that simplifies things a bit, basically all you need to do is download the SP1 burn the iso to disc & install, then rearm.
