So, how do i hit 5GHz?

Thread Starter
I've spent a few hours today messing with my 2600K, i was benching with some programs, so i decided.. Hell i've had this CPU for a few days, lets see if it really hits 5GHz. I've already run it at 4.6 so i thought it wouldn't take any effort.

Thing is, for some reason, the computer will not boot into windows if the Turbo Multiplier is over 48... It will freeze on the Black Screen with the flag.

So i said.. F it. I cranked up the multi to 50 and thought: "ill raise the language until it boots"

I tried the voltage all the way up to 1.5, 2.0 PLL, AVVCD or something like that to 1.1, Extreme Phase Control... I don't know what else to do :/ Do you guys think there's something i forgot to tweak?

Batch if required...L040B208 on a P8P67 Pro ASUS Motherboard.

The memory is 9-9-9-24 1600 running @ 1866 8-8-8-24 1.53

The CPU boots and benches perfectly at 1.3v(could probably do lower, i just tested it and it worked stable) @ 4.6

Thanks

Have you flashed the bios to latest one with PLL overvoltage thing?

Other than that, you really don't need much other than to set the vcore. I left everything on auto, raised phases to high and LLC to extreme. All settings on auto and I was benching past 5ghz. That was with the P8P67.

I couldn't get my board stable without the beta bios.

That might be a possibility, but i haven't done exhaustive enough experimentation to arrive at that conclusion.

I'm running this BIOS:
P8P67 Pro 1053 Beta BIOS - Which is the latest in the ASUS site.

What voltage did you use for 1.5?

I'll try setting everything on stock/auto, even the ram. Then i'll crank the multi to 50, and push 1.4 volts... Does that sound good?

I doubt its only 5% I got to it pretty easy, just the stock intel cooler got super hot pretty quick so I backed off.

From the get go, I set vcore to 1.45v. Then went up from there. Everything was fine up to 4.9ghz. After that, i'm not sure if I bumped vcore a bit, or if lower the bclk a tad is what worked. Lowering the bclk helped me boot at certain multis. I think 52x and 53x worked with a lower bclk.

But keep in mind, this just for benching and to see what the chip could do.

You mean under 100? I haven't messed with it. Oh well, let's try.
