Why are they comparing a brand new chip to a chip that:
1.) Is 2 years and 5 months old.
2.) Isn't even Intel's current architecture.
3.) Is on a 45nm process.
4.) Wasn't even Intel's high end chip at the time (that would be the 965 and 975).

I would expect them to be comparing the 4-core Bulldozer to a 4-core Sandy Bridge.

Bulldozer was meant to come out around the same time as i7

Bulldozer is 3+ years old(It was meant to release in 2008 with the K10 series becoming the essential-mainstream market)

Bulldozer was meant to compete with i7 on the 45nm HKMG process

i7 950 = Phenom II 1100T in synthetics

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?...50+%40+3.07GHz

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?...om+II+X6+1100T

Bulldozer for consumers was meant to be clocked @ 2.8 GHz for this 50% to work

It being clocked at 3.8GHz means a much higher performance ratio 50% -> 75-100%

Intel finally got out of K8s shadow with the i7 Sandy Bridge only to get under K15s Shadow

Someone's a little upset. Too much loyalty will do this.

I don't think it's fair to use the timeframe in which it was "meant" to come out as an argument or anything associated with that particular opinion. They took far to long.

Oh, and you do realize Ivybridge is right around the corner on 22nm... And not to mention SB-E even closer.

What do you mean?
90% of my Machines are Intel....5% of my AMDs are on the BTX Motherboard setup and 5% of AMD is on ATX(Gaming machine)

AMD = High Performance Computing(Gaming)
Intel = Workstation(Making huge textures and programming and folding rigs)

It is completely fair

People compared Core 2 what Netburst was meant to be to K8

Sandy Bridge Extreme is a lot closer than you think, they are going to release SB-E on the date Bulldozer comes out

Development of Bulldozer started in 2005 - the same year development of Sandy Bridge also started.

By your logic, Sandy Bridge should have come out in 2008 too.
Don't you think you are underestimating the time it takes to develop x86 architectures?

This thread is where you just lost all your credibility.

AMD for gaming over Intel? Rofl. Dude i own AMD and a big fan, but to make blasphemous claims for some kind of self gratitude is sorry....

Intel timelines are different than AMD timelines

AMD was planning to compete with Nehalem not Sandy Bridge

Where AMD is shortsighted, Intel is foresighted

Bulldozer Performance Expectations
When Intel announced its first Core microarchitecture CPUs, we saw a number of charts that looked like this:

Intel used performance-per-watt to compare the efficiency of its new architecture to its predecessors. AMD is unveiling Bulldozer's performance target in a similar way, by looking at performance-per-watt:

In the client desktop/notebook space, Bulldozer will have around 1.3x better performance per watt than Barcelona. AMD also indicated that Bulldozer will deliver as much as 1.5 - 2.0x better performance per watt in the server and HPC space when compared to Barcelona.

Better efficiency is obviously important, but absolute performance can't be ignored which is why AMD tagged Bulldozer with the line: "designed to be the highest performing single and multi-threaded compute core in history."

Bulldozer will have to go up against Intel's Nehalem core, which to recap is a dramatically evolved member of the Core architecture.
