May Sony die in a fiery pit of hell for their BS anti-consumerism. I hope they go the way of Sega, exit the hardware race stage left. Gaming as a service is going to forced on us in the next decade anyway, so lets make sure they aren't one of the providers.

Anyway, I hope he gets off and he should setup a link to donate to his legal defense fund, I would donate a few bucks.

You know, Sony makes more then just Ps3's right? And they do a good job at it. And all their trying to do is prevent pirates from ruining their console like the PSP. God forbid you can't run non-existent user packages.

Yes, many use it for that. But I know people who have dozens of illegal games. And now look, they're hardly any new PSP games and the ones that due come back are published by Sony. No developers will make games for it because (from what I hear) its easy to pirate it.

true that, even tho the homebrew scene is not very fond of pirating games, the exploits are kinda enabling both.

and id like to add that sony has held their own pretty well, atleast i think they have, i remember buying my psp-go and being all extatic about playing whatever i wanted on it.
Only to find out that you could only do that on the old psp's and it took ages for a exploit to come out for the newest firmware, and even that didnt have kernel access.

probably was one not public tho

Actually it has been ruled on before in the American court system, you can do anything legal with devices you own. That includes running non-copyright infringing software.

Sony does not have the legal right to tell you can't run legal software on the console you bought. They own the intellectual property rights to a PS3, they don't own the PS3 you bought and brought home. There is a big difference there, although I admit it may be subtle to some.

You sir are very out of touch with reality. I HATE most of all not Sony for trying to exert more control than they are legally allowed, not the government that sanctions it, but the people like the guy I just quoted who not only don't mind, they actively welcome their "overlords" with open arms.

I know that Sony has their fingers in a LOT of pies and I don't feel we are better off for any of it. Their content publishing, their home electronics, certainly not their Vaio's. They excel at mediocrity.

So yes, roasting in a fiery pit, etc.

If you are out of ideas, make crappy games and are interested in cash cows, this is the best excuse.

Or else game development would have stopped 30 years ago.

20 years ago a gamers dream was an expensive amiga. Incredible games but also rampant piracy that killed the indie scene. Yet amiga collapsed due to bad marketing. Sony can take more hits than that

How is that 'Property of Sony'?

Unless this was done on some demo unit or something that did, at the end of the day, require it to be shipped back to Sony or something, it very much remains his property since he purchased it with his own money.

Bit of an over-generalization there. First, there's nothing wrong with brand loyalty. People are naturally gonna turn to name's that they trust. I've always equated Sony with quality products. My Sony MDR-7506 headphones that I use for reference monitoring when doing live sound mixing, have been with me through extensive traveling and have taken a beating for 5 years now, and they're still in great shape! Heck yea I'd buy Sony headphones again.

Second, I don't see why Sony's control over their platform is such a bad thing. It's the reason we're getting quality software for the PS3 and all the crap gets canned. See Android for example. It's a great platform, but you have to sort through all the crappy apps just to find the 4 apps you actually want. To be fair, Sony is even more lenient in this regard.
