And that's why I love Canada, It is legal her to pirate software if its for your personal use, and you don't intend to sell it... The same applies to jailbreaking etc...

I support him and the right to mod consoles for two reasons:
One, because I feel that if you purchase something you should be free to use it to the fullest of its capabilities.
Two, because if piracy does indeed take off on PS3, it will make it harder for developers to single out the PC for pirated games.

Yeah, reasonably illogical & pointless. You can't stop the "distribution", it's been done.

Doesn't matter. He violated the Licensing Agreement, therefore Sony can take action.
....no, they can ban his console, that is the only action the can take. Time and time again, licensing agreements have been shown to not be binding in court. same with microsoft(windows), all they can do is revoke your cd key.

ohh, and i have an 80gb fat ps3 that not only could i install linux on(and i did) when i bought it, sony showed me how to in there own MANUAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...that was one of the reasons i bought it, and for sony to take away that feature...one of the features they pushed as "see what the ps3 can do that the xbox cant" is BS. I paid for a 80gb fat ps3 that i could install linux on, then after they sold enough they took that away. i dont feel bad for sony at all and they can suck a fat one for all i care...that woud be like a motherboard company touting that you can run 16gbs of ram, then doing an update and only allowing 8gbs....

So you condone piracy only if its console games and not your beloved PC? Please clarify.

The fact that most console games ship with a highly integrated online component makes piracy stupid on the privateers part since you can't even connect to XBL/WiiConnect with a modded console due to constant updates. You won't even get the full experience so piracy on consoles is not quite as devastating to developers as it is on PC were the same limitations can be circumvented by privateers.

Even if you buy and play a new game on your modded console, your system could still be bricked as I believe they ship new kernels/system updates on the disc provided the game launched ~ the time a new update was released.

I'm not sure if this is the case all the time but it has been done before.

Uh, then you must love the US too because the DMCA allows you to root your electronics that you own.

However, piracy is still illegal.

^this. And also I firmly believe once you own something you should be 100% entitled to YOUR property and given the full ability to do whatever the hell you want with it. Kinda paying a slut for sex. You paid for it you better get what you paid for.

Would'nt it be strange if one day they made you give a writen signiture when you buy your games console to not modify it in anyway or you'll face legal proccedings

They couldn't, as nobody would buy the consoles.
