[Redmondpie] Geohot speaks openly with G4 about Sony Lawsuit against him - Page 5

He didn't make piracy possible. Some people on forums were the ones to modify some games to point to the hdd instead of the blu-ray drive and get it working, similar concept with psn games. His hack does allow homebrew without a issue but the rest is a side effect of it. Look at the wii, the hack lets you install custom ios which then let you pirate and the xbox360 is mostly a pirate only hack

xbox360 with jtag is a pirate and cheat in online games tool which is ridiculous.

It's not YOUR hardware...

The thing is, those hacks don't work with every console. The hack that he is exploiting works with every console because some sort of root keys are the same across every PS3(Sony's fail) unlike other consoles.

There are kernel updates twice a year for Xbox 360, it makes no sense to buy pirated software that relies so much on XBL when you'd just get bricked anyway and your console will be banned until the year 9999, at least its not forever.

You get banned from time to time but I know a few people with jtagged xbox's and you can be on latest xbox 360 version.

I know that the hack allows it to work on all PS3's, the metdlr key is the famous key that he is getting sued for, and because of that Sony can't repair the issue at all but I am sure they could ban pirates somehow, if not then I understand why the sue has occurred

This guy may actually be ruining things for the PS3 community. Sony can, at any time, wish to drop all game production and support for the PS3 and move on to their next console. I doubt Sony would do it, but they can.

Well, to be fair Sony still owns the various patents on the hardware and the right to reproduce it.

Any company can do that at ANY time... if he wins it could be a great thing for the ps3 community though.
Really though?
That's like saying I can't build my own boxes for my stereo... piss off I own it.
