Wireless Adapter questions.

I'm using some five year old Linksys adapter that's finally going out, and there seem to be quite a few options now.

Should I look for the highest data transfer rate? Some of these say 150Mbps and others 300Mbps. There's "dual band" and "micro/nano" adapters...It's all Greek to me. I like the thought of a USB adapter, but would a PCI one make a big difference either?

Open to suggestions here. Using a D-Link DIR-655 router.

Like..eight feet or so. Not sure whether or not I want to use an ethernet cable. Got enough of those running around my room as it is.
