help 955 prime95 fail on stock - Page 2

Thread Starter
k so this is really starting to piss me off. I've tried the highest safe voltage allowed on stock settings and prime doesn't even run for 10 seconds without 1 or 2 cores failing. No chip should required past safe voltages to run stable... anyone got any suggestions or am i SOL

try re-seating the processor and inspect the pins. as it was brand new you may have bent a pin on installation or something.

you my friend are awesome sauce. I raised my voltage to 1.55v on my ram and so far 3 hours of prime and not one crash. Is that kinda voltage safe or at least within desirable specs? I see a lot of people shaming 1.65 voltage ram. I remember gskill customer tech telling me to raise my voltage too which i thought was odd cus they're rated for 1.5v

With the higher FSB you're running the ram faster which requires more voltage or thats my guess. I believe if you down clock the multiplier to stockish speeds you could have kept the stock voltage.

Congrats on stabilizing!

By any chance can you give me your NB voltage? I'm starting to play around with my FSB and trying to get a baseline/reference for NB and FSB.

Its safe, dont worry. Most RAMs need a volt bump to run stable(stock settings) on AMD comp. I read a few weeks ago (Kingston website if I remember correctly), about a specific RAM @ whatever speed and timings and 1.65V, that for AMD, the voltage shoud be 1.75-1.90V

From what im reading, im pretty sure your auto settings for your ram timings are off. Had the same problems with g skill where the spd isnt detected right. Open up cpuz and see what the timings are and set thing to what they are supposed to be. Usually, i have seent hat the trc is the one that is set wrong.

Good luck,

I actually reverted to doing a multiplier only overclock. I can't seem to get my cpu past 3.8 so i gave up and decided to do multiplier only to keep it simply. Btw prime was failing on stock so it wasn't because of my FSB. It was definitely my ram. Its now running at 1.65v and my computer is super stable. Never figured that would've been a problem. Wouldn't have figured it out without the help of the fellow overclockers.
