heres the situation. have a friend who needs a serious technology overhaul at their business.. they are using 5+ year old computers w/ wireless b router -.-" *shivers*

they have their eyes on some HP slimlines as computers. they would like to have a fast network wireless network too and since the slimlines has n wireless cards, lookin to a N router too..

i briefly looked at newegg and saw teh D-Link DIR-655 802.11b/g/n Xtreme N Gigabit Wireless Broadband Router as the 2nd highest reviewed router... first in N.. any good?

is there a N router that can run dd-wrt or tomato?

Well whats there budget?

The D-LInk 655 will be a excellent choice.

Considering they are using 5 year old technology you can only assume they arent planning on upgrading in another 5 years.

The new netgear range max routers are really good to

Yes I have the DIR-655 and I love it, it had some pretty major firmware issues for a while, but I believe they've sorted them out.

I know some of the asus routers support ddwrt (the 655 does not), linksys routers for the most part, also buffalo. If you find one you like and want to know if it will work with DDWRT just type in the model number here, http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database.

I have a Linksys WRT310N, dd-wrt works fine on it

Use this site to gage/compare router against each other, you can compare the main features that you would be looking for in a router.I'd take a look at the Linksys WET610N & D-Link 685 as well as the Netgear 3700.The D-Link 685 isn't 5Ghz capable, while the other two are.So that's something to think about if you want to run in that spectrum. The 3700 is supported by dd-wrt and the other two are not at this point in time.As for tomato IDK.

The Dir-655 is an excellent choice. I have one myself. A couple reasons why i advise it is because of the QoS technology and ability to use Wish. If you delegate it correctly within your home network you wont have to worry about bandwidth hogging roomates or family members. Ive had mine for a short 2 years now and have only made small problems with Firmware. However upgrading was simple.

For any business purpose I'd use wired on the workstations if at all possible.

Other than that something like an RT-N16 would be nice, with DD-WRT.
