Is this OC normal?

Thread Starter
Hi,

Is an OC of 755 for the core and 1510 for the shader normal at 1.087v on a GTX 470? It seems a bit low to me. Could it be my mobo by any chance causing it to be this low? I keep reading about these 800+ core oc. Anything above 755 core and 1510 shader for me in OCCT results in errors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's just a hit and a miss sadly. I have 2 Zotac 470's that need 1.050v to be stable at 760 and the best I can get from both at 1.087v is 780 stable.

But the Asus 470 that I have can go up to 830 stable at 1.087, and 750 on 0.987v.

So yes that is low, I'd be looking at your power supply first rather than your motherboard. In case you system isn't getting enough power to the card.

well my card can go up to 845core/1800memory without a problem, that is at 1.087v

I don't think it is my PSU as it is 750w. Is there any chance I could squeeze out any more mhz other then upping my volts which would void my warranty because I would need to flash a custom bios?

Just to verify, is this the SC version, or no?

I used to have the SC 470, and my max OC was @ 778 core, and only a 10mhz increase on the shaded clock, in order for it be stable in MSI fur, and games.

Then again, I remember reading about another person's SC 470 reaching 800 @ core, with a 200mhz increase in the Shader. Bottom line, it seems all cards are different, in their ability to OC, while remaining stable. It sux, I kno, heh.

Everything varies from card to card. Mine overclocks to 860 core with 1.212v (watercooled)

It is not an SC version. It is just the GTX 470. I know not all cards will oc the same, but this just seems a bit low. I was expecting at least 780+ on the core and 1560+ on the shader. I can run games great at 800+, but F@H and occt both will not run until I drop it to 755. OCCT has errors and F@H has EUE UNSTABLE_MACHINE. Also at 1.087v it just seems low. Is there anyway I could oc it more? Is there any chance it is my current comp? I am upgrading to Sandy Bridge. Do you think I will be able to get any more out of this GPU with that build? I know this might be silly, but could the problem be my current mobo does not support PCI Express 2.0? Overall though I am still very happy and satisfied with my card. Beats the crap out of my old 7800GTX.

1.087v is the safe limit on air, if you can put your card under water then you can flash the bios on it to achive more voltage.

Is there any other way of getting more out of this card then having to water cool and flash a new bios?

My friend's got 2 GTX 470's. 1 can hit 880 core on 1.087V the other can only hit 815 core on 1.087V. Every card is not created equal, that's just the way things work.
