[TH] ASRock's E350M1: AMD's Brazos Platform Hits The Desktop First

So, I’m sitting here, benchmarking away on ASRock’s E350M1 motherboard, which is armed with AMD's E-350 APU thinking to myself, “Man, this is a way better experience than any Atom-based configuration I’ve ever tested in Windows 7, but it's not what I was hoping for from the ‘Fusion, Fusion, Fusion’ that AMD keeps chanting.” What are you, anyway?

Are you…an Atom-killer? Are you…able to compete with a desktop architecture? Are you…designed to go heads-up against mobile parts?

Benches at source - games, productivity, video encoding, etc... They are saying this and other E-350s m-ITX are going be $110.

As a replacement for Atom it is best. Intel needs to make the Atom execute instructions out-of-order rather than in-order.

I wonder what Intel has planned for the next generation Atom later this year?

-Its a shame they didn't mention over clocking the Bobcat core on Zacate.

-The gaming performance is excellent. W/80 stream processors that is about 1.6x the performance of the Xenos GPU inside the Xbox 360, so you should be able to play modern games on med-high @ 720p with playable frame rates.

What you said here is from your imagination, and not based on any facts

E-350 (fastest Brazos CPU) can barely play most of modern games at 1024x768 with low settings

not really, you can't compare just "stream processors", they are different beasts
you cant ignore the 64bit vs 128bit memory, the 4ROPs vs 8ROPs, 8 vs 16TMUs so the 360 GPU have many advantages, also I think the capabilities of the shader processors are different,
and as a PC CPU the Zacate 2 cores at 1.6ghz are to weak for serious gaming
and most importantly, 360 is a closed platform, the games can be highly optimized for THAT hardware, while in PCs, you can't get to that level, so it's more inefficient in terms of computing power vs performance,

anyway, very nice for a 100 usd part!

I WANT ONE!!!!

I'm looking forward building a VERY small HTPC and this could be the perfect solution!!!

THANKS ASROCK AND AMD!!!

Btw~ OCing this ones to 2.2GHz would make them quite beasties... Considering the iGP is pretty much overclockable aswell (HD4200 based if I'm not mistaken), and that IGP at 900MHz has some decent power. It can move COD4 med-high settings 1024x768 at 35FPS, which is, in comparison to the Intel solution, very acceptable.

Update: AMD just confirmed for us that Zacate employs a Cedar core, equivalent to what you'd find in the aforementioned Radeon HD 5450, based on the company's VLIW5 architecture. Indeed, that gives you access to eight texture units and four ROPs.

Goddamn!!! That's WAY more powerful than the HD4200!!

Must buy this one. A HD5450 with some OC is plenty enough of accelerating decent graphics smile.gif

Yep, if Atom were made OOO then it would become an undervolted Celeron. More likely Atom will keep its architecture, maybe get QuickSync, get 32nm lithography thus lower power and brace for the arrival of dual-core ARM processors in the netbook/tablet market.
ULV SB-based Celeron/Pentium processors can take over the low end for Intel if equiped with QuickSync and 1EU.
