Some helps from those who's running i7 920 C0 stepping on EVGA X58 3x sli mobo.

just got these set up and wondering if i can get some insights from you guys on your settings. i know D0 stepping goes miles further as far as overclocking goes but if there is someone out there has experience with C0 stepping 920 on EVGA x58 board, please help me out. i'm apparantly new to i7 world and default i7 setting is slower than my previous q9550 setup... bleh...

i dont know why your i7 would be slower than a Q9550, but firstly there are some important differences that has happened with the 1366 and 1156 chips that the LGA775 didnt have.
your VDram now cannot go above 1.65v safely, any higher than 1.65v can rapidly decrease your IMC (internal memory controller, meaning that the memory controller is now located on the CPU), if you kill this it pretty much means youll have to replace your cpu.

then the RAM ratio is worked on timings now very much like the cpu multiplier is. the ram ratio must be in direct link to the QPI multiplier. the rule is that your QPI Multi must equal two times that of your Ram multi. having this set wrong will have the same effect as running over 1.65v VDram.

other than that the i7's like odd multipliers for overclocking, so using your turbo mode you can force all cores to run at 21x consistently. or you can back your multiplier down to 19x.

for a C0 chip your aiming for a realistic 3.6ghz to 3.8ghz overclock. most C0 i7's cant make it to 4ghz with safe voltages.

basically from here you just increase your Base clock to get your desired core speed, and find the right voltages.

i don't know. i'm running default right now because i'd want to research bit more about the cpu/ram/mobo configuration before i play with any bios settings. i just flashed latest bios version and running default eversince but comepared to my previous Q9550 @ 4.2 ghz, it definitely feels slower at default. maybe with little OC, it'll tend to do better but for now yea...

err.... swaping out a70 for . d14? I hope u plane on changeing out the fans too. your swaping for a sideways swap. noting going to improve much.

Anyways on point. I had 2 920 c0 and 1 920 do and now on 930 do.
920 c0 chip 3.8 ghz @ 1.4 volts.
920 d0 chip 4ghz @ 1.38 volts.
930 d0 chip 4ghz @ 1.2785 volts
Now i got 6 gb of ram across all 6 dimms , qpi volts are 1.35-1.40, all depends on all system components but the volts your going to get is different. Mostly if i where you. strat with low volts @ stock and see how low u can run stack @ lowest volts to run,
920 was 1 volt
920 do was .975
930 is .925 volts @ stock
it lets you know a little more about your chip @ start. the lower the volts are @ stock the higher in the end u mite be able to take it faster. I know i dont have your mobo but its the same chipset. i say looking @ my other chips . U can hit 4 ghz on it @ high volts but i like my chip to hit a max of 70 degs so for me thats my limit. i can hit 4.2 on this chip but in folding it hits 75 degs so i got it @ 4 ghz.

Good cpu stress tester is . Linx cpu stress. i do 10 runs for fast. then 500 do make sure @ the volts/speed is recorded and move up. takes days to find good temps /volts/speeds also load up games and run fraps to see in that games that u play if it makes a difference.

i bought A70 as temp. once i get my D14 in next few days, i'll just return that one back... it's performing much better than expected though...

thanks a lot for very helpful informations there. i'm doing prim95 right now at default settings and once i'm done with 12hour prime 95, i'll be doing linx. never ran 500 cycles, usually around 20 for quick, 50 to 100 for long term...

at default, everything is auto on voltage but i'm sure i'll do play with those in a bit. i just wanted to know what others are running at and to see if i can get some insights on bios settings and such.

On auto means more volts are dumped on . when i test volts. its on linx 10 runs. then move on. then i got back and stress more, but in lets say 5 hours i got a good overclock drity tests. then finer volts to most. I note u got a ssd i bumped volts to south bridge and north/x58 chip Up a few bumps from stock, also i got most volts on lowest setting. Only real think is ppl and qpi mine needs bumps as speed gose up. more stress info passing . as for auto @ 3.8 i beat @ thos volts you can run 4.2ghz O all my test where with llc on and power saving stuff on. ht on as well. esti off. (or whatever that is called)
