HTPC/Girlfriends Budget GPU

Thread Starter
Need a new Graphics card for the girlfriends PC, nothing major just Sims 3, Facebook Games etc.

Is The GT210 any good at all?

If not was thinking about a 5450, would the GDDR2 or 3 be better?
That would probably work, it will depend on what resolution she will be playing at as well. I own a GT 220 1gb and with a single core processor I was able to play games like oblivion, sims 3, spore and mini ninjas pretty much maxed out.

I would push you to get the 5450 with DDR3/GDDR3 if the price is reasonable.
The GT210 isn't much more powerful than most onboard gpu's.

It is for HTPC so either one is fine. Dependind on the price, I would go for 5450. It perform better and only draw less power- 20w vs. 31w (GT210).

It would be mainly 1280*1024, when we move out next year I may use it to feed the HDTV a HD video or two but anything 8600GT+ should be able to handle 1080p.

Just wasnt sure how the real low end cards worked.

So GT210 vs 5450... :\\

EDIT: 5450 it is then...

GDDR3>GDDR2?

GDDR3 is a tad faster than GDDR2.
In gaming it helps a lot.

GDDR3>GDDR2 but it still comes down the price factor to see if it is justified.

If you plan on doing 1080p be sure to get a 1gb card, I have too many cards atm myself and have to choose which to get rid of lol... I have a GTX 460 in my fiancé's rig, a 470 on my dining room table (trying to decide if I should give it to the girl), a GT220 also on my table and a baked working GT 7600 in my old FX-55 rig.

You don't need 1GB of vRAM to run 1080p. That's laughable.

The difference between GDDR3 and DDR2 in Sims 3 would be 5 FPS @ 1280x1024.

5450 will do its job. Why not wait for the 6000 series launch its low end card?
