Intel i5 2500K Build

Thread Starter
I have been researching and thinking about my options for the past few weeks and this is the build I have come up with.

I will be ordering 3 or 4 items from different stores so it should only be around $1,000 Shipped when I am finished which is actually my budget.

The only thing I am still undecided about is the Case because I'm also considering the Silverstone RV01-BW as well.

Lmk some opinions on all of this, please. I plan on ordering everything by next weekend so I want to make sure everything looks good on the build.

Thanks for the help!

NIce,

Well, I might have considered the Antec TP 650. The memory is a nice choice but I would go with the samsung F3 1tb for a hard drive..

Not had much experience with BIOSTAR but previously they haven't been great, take a look at the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128463&Tpk=GA-P67A-UD4, it's not much more and with their epic x58 builds this should be just as good biggrin.gif, I would actually drop the case to get this board.

The Biostar TP67XE is actually only $134 on another site which is $25 off from the NewEgg price. I have done a lot of research on this particular board. It matches or outperforms all of the $150-$200 boards with ease in every application. It's also a perfect match for my case idea. ^_^ Thank You for the warning, though.

Well, the F4 is faster than the F3 and I have no use for more than 320GB. I have had my laptop since '06 and out of 60gb I have only used 40gb. 320GB will be plenty and I can get it for $40 shipped from another site. I think I will use 2x F4's in RAID 0 when I get some extra cash. Good idea?

For the PSU, I simply want it to match. I can get it for $100 Shipped and it's Modular and GOLD. Are there any other White, Red/White, etc. PSU's that would be better in that price range? Thanks!

Raid0 is win,

I actually filled up my 500Gb drive and I need to get a second one, lol. But i'm ripping films etc for my media box.

I can see you want it all to match colour wise. That's cool, I can 100% appriciate that biggrin.gif

I think you've got a solid build there, I'm guessing you'll be using this for gaming, You should be able to xfire with that PSU as well. A similar setup only pulled 340w at the wall (so the whole rig) on load. so you'll probably hit 575 - 600w on full load.

anyways pics of the build and it looks good biggrin.gif

Thank You Sir. smile.gif Yeah, I don't really do many things that require a lot of storage. Don't really download movies and only play 4 or 5 games regularly.

And yes, I think a full red/white theme is going to look beautiful in that case. hehe

I'm going to check a bit more into the PSU. I've read mixed opinions on whether 650w is enough for CFX 6870's. It is a Gold unit though so I would hope it can handle it since there is a $40 gap between the 650 and 750.

I will most definitely do a build log once it all comes in. I'm pretty stoked! biggrin.gif

The power supply you have will handle the crossfired 6870's with ease man! Especially if it has the "80+ gold" rating.

Everything looks great man and the PSU would be absolutely fine (Power efficient CPU and GPUs!), but wouldn't you prefer a little more headroom just in case, or a future GPU upgrade? I'd look for something that is at least 750w considering it is only $40 and you'd be set for practically ever with technology getting more and more efficient (SB a prime example).

As for the case, go with what you have! I have the black RV02 and love it! The AP fans are amazing, the case is completely silent, and the cable management with a little planning will leave you with practically no wires showing while having the best air cooling case out now. A word to the wise though, buy zip ties for when you route all the cables in the back smile.gif

It's so white. Don't spill any red wine around it... wouldn't want to stain! tongue.gif

Kidding. Looks nicely color coordinated smile.gif
