Cooler Master CM690 (3 fans)
Corsair 750W PSU
Asus Crosshair IV Formula
Phenom x3 740 (unlockable to x4 40)
GSkill 2x4GB (not OVL) 9-9-9-24 DDR3 1333
standard DVD
standard keyboard
MX518 mouse
250 GB Caviar Blue 6G
2000GB Caviar Green 3G
Sapphire HD5870

plan is to upgrade processor as needed (yay AMD for not killing AM3 too early like Intel killed 775 and 1156)

so far have been able to get fsb to 330MHz and 3 cores and 275MHz on 4.
can get ram to 1440MHz
can get NB to 2800
can get 18 multi @ 200MHz

but can get past 3.7Ghz as of yet. can't find the sweet spot for 4GHz

pushed it to 1.55 from 1.28v
temp was never really a problem even when pushing fsb. highest i saw under prime was 50.
1.35 CPU/NB
1.2 NB
1.2 SB
i did have 16 GB RAM though. I just took half out to try again for the magic 4.0. Now if could split the difference like say 250 @16.5...

however everything is stock at the moment but find it strange that i can reach 3.6GHz 2 ways 200@18 or 330@11

Rasing your CPU-NB V and NB V should give you more stability as you increase your core clock.

@ 1.55v you should almost be hitting 4 GHZ..

*Edit

Also dont use prime. It is terribly outdated.

programs like Intel burn test (Which works just as well on AMD) stresses the CPU and memory more then prime will.

One hour of intel burn test is like two of prime..

Why?

I ran my CPu at 1.55V @ 4.1 and Intel burned it for 2 days.

which is irrelevant since prime crashes the system when i try to push past 3.6GHz.

anyway i didn't start the thread to discuss overclocking the system but rather the choices made for the components

Well i assume your at 3.5GHz right?

How long can you hold that?

Ohh! LOL i didnt know that was the purpose of the thread. It is overclock.net so i did assume we were talking about.. overclocking..

Well i think its a great build except the RAM.

Gskill ram is optimized for Intel. So on a AMD System they will work but you cant Oc' them as much

Amd has a list Here that work better with AMD Systems.

I would have also gotten a SSD. They are about $50 more from the average hard drive but read 3 times as fast. Its a HUGE increase in speed. Most operations (Starting up, Opening programs, Loading games) are bottle necked by the hard drive. Upgrading to a SSD will make a obvious difference.
