Gigabyte p67 ud7 - what in the....completely useless x1 slot

Can someone clear this up for me....?

How the heck am I supposed to run 3x GPUs that are double slot cards along with a PCI-E 1x Sound card....

Like what is the purpose of making a ud7 board and then blocking that off... a flat heatsink would have done the same exact thing...

Yeah, gigabyte's expansion slot layout team needs to be shot. Either that, or their heatsink team needs to communicate with them, or vice versa.

.. You can use PCI E extensions....

The only reason why theyare that close together is because they have to keep it within ATX standards.

We know why they're close together, but he's mainly referring to the x1 slot which is being blocked by the heatpipe. Gigabyte should have used a lower profile heatsink there.

PCI-e X1 extention.. I see what you mean. They should atleast provide the extension if they are going to to it.

Which would require case modding or a low profile card...

This literally has me so hung up... I bought this asus so I could run the card config I wanted, but the bios is utter garbage... Now im eyeing this ud7 and almost want to just buy it and hack it up.

So where does one buy a PCIe extension that will fit this:

I've found two extensions through Newegg, neither will work due to the size of the heatsink:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-223-_-Product
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-099-_-Product

From Google I've found an extension cable like this that would work:

http://www.9mart.com/products/PCI%25...e-Adapter.html

Question is: where do you install the card so its ports are still accessible from outside? I want to use my audio card in the 1x.

Update:

Found this one as well, which is probably the best assuming it clears the heatsink:

That board layout on the gigabyte is laughable. What the heck were they thinking?

I've had no problems with the Asus EUFI, just go to advanced mode and it basically functions just like the old BIOS.

There are other boards coming out that might fit your needs. The eVGA P67 Classified, Asus Maximus IV Extreme, Asus P67 WS Revolution, and MSI Big Bang Marshall all have the NF200 chip and can accomodate 3 dual-slot GPU's. As for having a slot for a sound card as well, I'm not sure about that. You'll have to look at the board layouts yourself.

As for the UD7, I guess Gigabyte was counting on people using really short cards in that slot, like USB cards like this:
