ECS GTX460 Black Serious Issue(s) ( You think you know HW, follow this )

Hello there.

Guys, I really am desperate for some help here.

First, a few keywords to help search system: ECS GTX460 Black Edition ; NBGTX460-1GPI-F ; HDMI ; invalid format ; DVI .

OK, now let's get to it.

I have just bought this baby, but I have some weird and serious issues.

Before this card, I had a XFX 9800GT ( green edition, no PCIe power cable used ), it had 2 DVI ports only. Everything worked fine: DVI, DVI->VGA, DVI->HDMI (one piece cable).

After much research, I got to those "invalid format" HDMI issues people have after Windows loads. This is NOT my case. I get invalid format on boot ( only the TV attached to force console output to HDMI )

The DVI output to my display ( Samsung T220 ) complains about with "Not Optimum Mode Recommended Mode: 1680x1050 60hz". The display shows refresh info of 55hz.

The DVI->VGA is another story. It displays a white/messed screen!

Let me show you some pictures to make it clear:

1. The DVI connection ( on boot, under windows or linux, anytime )

1a. The 55hz information

2. The DVI->VGA adapter!

3. The "Invalid format" from the TV ( pt_BR = "Formato inválido" ). Be it the mini-HDMIxHDMI cable, the DVI->HDMI adapter + cable or the one piece DVI->HDMI cable : the final result is the same

4. Working HDMI with any other card 1080/60p ( 1080/50p also works ). Tested with all cables except mini-HDMIxHDMI cable ( thos other cards didn't have the mini-HDMI connector )

As stated before, any combination of cables and adapters, the results are the SAME.

My system:

CPU: Q9550
Mb: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P ( rev 1.6 )
Mem: GSkill PI Series Black ( 1033 )
PSU: Corsair HX750w

Technically, there's no problem with my system.

I tried both PICe slots. No difference.

Tried another system too:
CPU: Core2 Duo
Mb: GA-G31M-ES2L
Mem: Kingston 1Gb
PSU: Corsair HX620W

The results were absolutely the same.

Tried other 2 cards: 9400GS and 7900GT : Both worked well, as expected ( DVI, DVI->VGA, DVI->HDMI(Adapter + cable ), DVI->HDMI(One piece cable). I didn't change the cables/adapters!

TO MAKE THINGS WORSE : This is happening with the second ECS GTX460Black ( I sent the first one to RMA ). The store sent me another one, a new one, and the problem is still the same.

OMG, now I wonder: WTH is wrong ? Any ideas?

I'll update this thread this weekend with some updates:

1. ) Will try this board with an ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe
2.) I'll get my hands on another GTX460 from ZOTAC or ZOGIS and perform new tests
3.) I'll get my hands on another 9800GT with HDMI output.

All things considered, it really sounds like the card is borked dude. I would Return/RMA it.

Definitely, it seems like there's a series of ECS GTX460 Black with this problem.

Got my new ZOTAC GTX460, and everything worked just fine. I'll Return the ECS card AGAIN!

I think I'll ask the store to send me another model, They've got EVGA 01G-P3-1370-TR.

I never bought ECS before and unfortunately, I won't try ECS again for a long time....
