First Build - Critique & Advice needed.

Hi guys, I'm building my first gaming computer, and was looking for your thoughts and inputs on my build. So here goes.

CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 970 Black Edition "140W Edition" 3.50GHz
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-275-AM

MB - Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5 AMD 890FX (Socket AM3) DDR3
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-281-GI

GPU - Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-256-SP

PSU - Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-008-CS

Memory - G.Skill RipJawX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C7 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-056-GS

CPU Cooler - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-035-AR

DVD-RW - Samsung SH-S223C/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-099-SA

Case - Coolermaster HAF 912 Plus Case
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-221-CM

I think everything will work together, but was wondering if the power supply is enough if I was looking to moderately OC. I am using the stock cooling system that comes with the case.

Thanks a bunch, any input will be appreciated.

Do you plan on cross firing? Looks pretty solid to me otherwise

Don't plan on crossfiring any time soon. So I'm not going to worry myself too much about it.

Was also wondering if you guys have any input on the case. I was originally going to choose the Coolermaster Storm Scout http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=CA-175-CM which is very well priced. But I'm told that it won't fit my GPU Oh well.
I'm not overly fused on the look of the HAF Case, but at least I know it definately fits my GPU.

Thanks for your reply

Hey, I just built my first rig, see my signature. I don’t have that much experience but I can tell you the optical drive works great!

CPU: My Phonem is a bit slower than yours but that’s what overclocking is for and the AMD Blacks are known to be solid performers.

RAM: I have 2x4Gb Ripjaws and I love 'em, I am sure the 2x2 will be good as well, though you might want to check your mobo's manual on-line first to see if they are on the chart for compatibility.

Case: I know ppl with the HAF and they are happy though that’s a lot of dust with no screens or filters, have you looked at the HAF-X?

Good luck on the build and remember to go with what you think is best cause in the end you have to live with what you buy

PS use the little globe with the link on highlighted text to link so we don’t have to cut and paste all ur links

Well if you don't mind me suggesting a case, I'd say the Lancool K62 is a great case Fit my 5870 easily

Hi, the CPU cooler you used is the one i used to have, I was anything but please with it.
It had very weak plastic Structures and not expressive cooling power.
I switched to the TT Frio, You might want this one if you dont want to spend much more.

And for the Cases the HAF 912 is good, but you can never turn the LED off which might get annoying. The one in my rig is a good a alternative >>

Otherwise it looks very solid.

I looked at the HAF X, really nice case and will definitely fit the 6950 GPU, but it's double the price of the HAF 912. A little bit out of my price range.

Dr Nicko - Yeah I have heard that the fan isn't the greatest. I have a friend with a similar build to mine and said he had a stressful time putting it on, but once he got it fitted he said it works fine (for the price). I wouldn't be interested in the more expensive one you linked, but I will definitely look into the Corsair A50.

Thanks for the input

Thanks pal. Looks like a beautiful case. Overclockers are sold out of it unfortunately (I'm buying solely from there because I have giftcards) But I'll check out some other vids on it then maybe enquire about delivery dates.

Mr Soft - Thanks for your input, decided to go for it, cheers

Anyone have any input on the PSU? Will it be sufficient?

Thanks
