Question about MLAA (First timer lol)

Thread Starter
Ok since I got my 5770 today Im wondering about this MLAA. Im using 10.10e. I read that MLAA doesnt work well with Vsync on. but it still functions properly vsync off correct?

Do all games use MLAA? Sorry just confused lol. I did notice that with MLAA on especially in BC2 the text is semi blurred

MLAA VS AA = Does MLAA make the graphics better then AA or is AA still a better option.

I have MLAA turned on in CCC & the Use application settings is still check marked. Am I supposed to uncheck that & just have MLAA checked?

Edit: I noticed the image quality in MLAA isnt the greatest. I think ill stick with MSAA. The image in MLAA looks off blurry

If the game has built-in AA, use that unless it's supersampling. MLAA is only really needed if you can't force any normal antialiasing, for example with GTA 4.

All games can use MLAA since it is just a post-process filter, in basic terms. Taking screenshots or movies with FRAPS (or programs like it) will not capture the filtering though.

MLAA VS AA? There are many different methods of AA, MLAA being one of them. AA is short for Anti-Aliasing, hence MLAA is short for Morphological Anti-Aliasing.

In comparison to multisampling (MSAA), MLAA doesn't do as good a job but is comparable to 8x msaa. Like I said, you only really need it if there is no built in AA, or if you're at ultra-high resolutions where video memory is scarce. Obviously it looks less blurry as the res gets higher too.

Here are some comparison shots of GTA4 with and without MLAA I took myself using printscreen & fraps (taken at 800x600):

Picture 1: On Off
Picture 2: On Off
Picture 3: On Off

1080p: On Off

and borderlands i took yesterday:
Normal [no built in AA] / 8x MSAA / MLAA
