Gtx 580 vs r5970 - Page 2

gtx 580

pros: single gpu, made by nvidia, drivers, not too bad on the heat, great performance.

cons: not as good as 5970 in performance, still has a lot of heat.

5970:

pros: great gaming performance, better than 580.

cons: bad drivers, more expensive, dual gpu (micro stutter), made by amd, hotter than 580.

Tnx
note: 5970 5% better than a GTX 580. A single-gpu card.

their is only a 5% difference for the 5970

the 580 is cooler and its a single card 580 is SLI beat a 5970 in SLI

even if they had same prices a 580 is still a better option...

Well I have a gtx 580 on the way because it matches the 5970... and I couldn't get the bloody 5970 working on any driver.

Also, from what I have experienced, nvidia seems to be better as an "all around". Really, the ATI cards are great for gaming and thats about it.

Forrrrr example. When F@H:
5970 - 3000-7000
GTX 580 - 16000-20000

Newegg is the US is selling the Sapphire 5970 for $499

Their cheapest GTX580 is Galaxy or ECS also selling for $499

Two 6970's to several points above are going to be faster than either option but going to cost several hundred dollars more so I'm not sure why posters in this thread even suggested them.

? and your point

Thats a pretty big price difference. 1 580 or 5970 is more than sufficient for most games at 1920x1200 resolutions or less

I had 5850 cf with no issues. 5970 with nothing but issues, I tried 2 cards, both bought new by me. I would do CF ATI again though, it worked great.

I would consider waiting for the GTX560 and see how SLI performance stacks up.

Otherwise if these are the only choices the 580.
