Some will, it's more the lazy factor than the scared factor in those cases. Most people use the front of being scared because they don't want to. Lets say if it's in the store when they get a new pc they can just think "oh, this can be tested on my old pc now" and would ease their minds more. It's all about the psychological warfare! Western culture likes options up front and in their face or else it gets lost. That's mainly because we are used to having options, we like choosing. It gives a false sense of freedom, but whatever it works.

In simple terms you have obviously never read a licence agreement before. It's not illegal. I could sell an Ubuntu CD - hell I could sell access to an Ubuntu ISO on my own FTP server - for $20 million if I wanted to.

There is an Australasian retailer which sells Ubuntu and Fedora dvds in most of it's stores for about $5 us. I remember the first time I saw them there the retard shop assistant asked me if I was looking for an os and then tried to shove a copy of windows in my face. Needless to say that didn't go well.

Someone swyped my idea.

I still remember buying FreeBSD 4 from a brick-and-mortar store and ordering Solaris 8 online. Funny times...
