opinions on sandy bridge build

Thread Starter
this is my first build..i will not be overclocking..im not a gamer..i will do basic video encoding and basic photo editing with this pc and general pc tasks

ideally i would like to spend no more then 1500 but can go slightly higher if really needed

will this build be good for my needs..please give me your opinions and make recommendations if you think something should be changed

also im still up in the air with case i like a few lian li cases but im not sure..i prefer no cooler master cases because of the static electricity problem i have seen please recommend a mid tower case that fits within the budget and will keep everything running good air cooled

any questions feel free to ask

go with nvidia for gpu acceleration in photo shop.

psu is a bit pricey, just get a corsair, antec, seasonic one that is rated plus or higher.

other than that it looks fine, cooler master case and static electricity problem? WHAT? que? huh? Never heard of it and i can assure you that they are fine cases.

its a pretty widespread problem and just concerns me cause my room is carpeted and its cold and dry here

any case recommendations

and recommendations for a nvida card that isnt overkill?

your build looks good but get a better gfx card. Cooler master cases are A++ so dont worry there. that psu is great so idk why the other dude said get a different one.

I haven't had a single problem with case, not sure what you are talking about. I would go with a 2600 if you're doing video encoding and photo editing. The HTing will help out with these tasks. For the HDD go with a spinpoint F3, really nice HDD and only 5 dollars more for a Terabyte:

Also grab a 450, can be had for $130 USD. It is a far superior card that has CUDA and can even fold.

for those that doubt the coolermaster problem you can just go to various cases of theres reviews on newegg order it by date and guaranteed within the first 3 pages you see 1-4 reviews stating the problem

for me its concern because i would think in my room i would be prone to static electricity due to carpeting and it being cold and dry here right now

i would love to get the fractal design arc midi but it wont be out till the end of april

so right now lian li cases look the best to me in my opinion..i was looking at the pc-k62 but thats also seems to have a very common problem which is the power button not working right after a few months and of course lian li isnt known for there support..so case wise i dunno what to do right now..i know theres always going to be bad reviews but with these 2 situations one i seem prone to it happening to me and the other wouldnt worry me so much if there was good support..but im still open to other lian li cases or any other suggestions

I would get a K series even if you are not going to overclock. The price difference isn't that much more and the resale value will be better for a k series in the long run if you ever want to sell.

First off take newegg reviews with a grain of salt. Second I mess with my hardware in my room on my carpet and have never once shocked any hardware. Those idiots probably didnt ground themselves before touching a part. If you ground yourself while messing with parts its impossible to static shock something
