We suspect our children will grow up shocked to learn there was a time when phones didn’t take photos, record videos, play music, and allow you to play games—all at the same time! Here are five electronic items that will seem practically prehistoric in a few years’ time.

Okay, there's no way in hell DVDs/Blu-Rays will be replaced by netflix until 1. monthly data limits on ISPs are gone 2. network streaming becomes more reliable.
And I honestly hate the "cloud computing" idea.
Alarm clocks seem to make sense though.
Cellphone cameras could replace low-end point-and-shoot cameras but definitely not all of them.

I pretty much share the sentiment.

cellphone (or mobile phones as we call em ) will replace alot of eletrical gadgets. I already use my mobile as an mp3 player, alarm clock, calander, camera, as well as commincations and navigating device, and this particular model i use is 3 years old.

Personally, i've felt any gadget other than a good mobile phone was pointless and a waste of money. It's basically a swiss army knife for technology, why buy anything else? (This is also why i favor PC's over "consoles" aka media hubs, it does everything they do far better plus so much more)

Hard drives probably will be ancient technology in a few years- to be replaced by solid-state drives, not the cloud.

Also disagree with wireless everything, too much delay in wireless to have say a wireless screen, and the keyboard/mouse wireless has too much delay and not reliable enough at times for major gaming, wireless headsets/speakers sound worse than wired ones, though I will be happy when stuff stops needing power cords.

Alarm clocks, for sure NEED to die, hate that red/blue LED glow they give off, keeps me up at night, and phones work great as alarms anyways.

I doubt video streaming will be that much advanced in a few years, too costly for ISP's to allow it, though would be nice.

I thought point and shoot cameras died 3 years ago or so?

And laptops. I wholeheartedly DISAGREE with this one, I really like having a mobile computer with a 17" screen THAT I CAN GAME ON, because I can SEE things on it, at a very nice resolution, as well as have a real keyboard that doesn't take up half the screen. So it will be a sad day for me if laptops become obsolete...

Cellphones can, and will replace numerous gadgets, but it never really comes close to real stuff.

For the average user though, it will be ample.

Also, it's sad to see tablets will replace laptops.

Low-end ones, definitely.

But not for gaming and high end entertainment laptops/DTR's, unless said tablet is going to be a couple inches thick, and packing a few copper sinks and fans in there?

IMO:

1. The US still has to catch up when it comes to dl speed and accessibility.

2. Alarm.. clock..? What? What are those? Ohh... right... I have one but it just sits there all "it's 7:59" like. Phone = alarm. Of course they're phasing out.

3. Everyone needs a starter camera.... it's on their cellphone.

4. Nah... tablets may become more popular but not take over.

5. Maybe so, Deeds.

6. Duh.
