When Bulldozer comes out and the board makers get all the kinks in their BIOS's worked out you can sell your stuff and upgrade then. If you're going to jump on Sandy Bridge then just do it. No doubt it would be better for scientific software.
Personally, I hate trading, whether cars, computers, or anything else. You'll always take a loss, and the buyer gets a great deal.
If I buy a board, I want a good board. And if I buy a good board, I don't want to sell it in 6 months. You can bet when BD hits, AM3 and Deneb/Thuban prices will drop like a tank. Just ask the guy who bought a high end Netburst before Conroe launch...
I'm not trying to "jump" on anything. But when I finish building up my workstation in a month or two (for work), I'll have to make a decision.
