Crosshair IV Formula Load-Line Calibration

So I've now got my new motherboard set up and I'm ready to hit the overclocking hard!
My question is regarding the Load-Line Calibration (LLC) feature this motherboard has that my previous one didn't.

I'm aware that it's supposed to compensate for the drop in CPU voltage during high CPU load, thus attempting to keep stability up. However, Google searches lead me to believe that it overshoots and actually overvolts the CPU instead if it's on and if it's off, the voltage drop is there..
What's the compromise here?
What do you guys do with this setting with your high 24/7 overclocks?
I'm looking to exceeding 4.0GHz with this motherboard. I needed 1.55V on my previous motherboard to have 4.0GHz stable.

It is recommended to not use LLC at any voltages higher than 1.35-1.37

Right well, 1.3625V is the default voltage on my motherboard it seems so I guess it means that if I have to raise the CPU voltage at all, I should disable LLC. Thanks, I'll try that out and monitor with CPU-Z.

Why not check out the first page in the ASUS Crosshair IV Formula/Extreme Club thread? There is a list of current members setup's and everyone is running LLC either enabled or on auto.

In fact the latest Beta Bios 1304 is seemingly giving slightly better control with the LLC set at 50%.

Just keep an eye on your LOADED voltage levels and it works just fine. I'm currently running Vcore of 1.4 in bios and loaded it climbs to 1.440 with cpu 4013MHz and 3010MHz NB. Feel free to PM me if you have questions, always glad to help when I can!

I always use LLC on my board. It will compensate for voltage drop and also increase voltage if the chip needs more juice. On my current oc, I've set the vcore to 1.5 but with LLC turned on, it flicks to 1.51 sometimes and seems to stabilize my system. I believe most people will recommend you keep it turned on if you are overclocking heavy.

Thanks for the support guys!
I'm currently Prime95 testing my system at 4.0GHz. I'm finding the lowest voltage I can run 4.0GHz at. Currently testing 1.459375V and going down step by step. LLC is currently set to 0% calibration which must mean it's set to off. At full load, my voltage seems to drop down to 1.380V according to CPU-Z. Seems stable so far, though!!
Any suggestions in this area relating to LLC?

EDIT: For reference, I am indeed running the 1304 BIOS. I flashed it the very first time I switched it on!

let the LLC on and work your way up small voltage upwards. LLC usually adds .05 volts for the cpu and .03volts for the cpu-nb on full load. i highly recommed turnign it on. for a 4.0ghz. you might only needs at least 1.4volts to 1.45volts with LLC enable. so in your bios set it at 1.35votls and work your way up till its stable. =)

LLC is wonderful! hahaha
50% calibration does indeed provide that little extra bit of voltage that counters the drop during full load. I'm currently testing 1.409375V with 50% calibration on LLC. It seems to be working as well as 1.459375V with 0% calibration on LLC, which is brilliant.

As you say, I should be able to get a decently low voltage setting in the BIOS for 4.0GHz as long as LLC is set to 50% calibration. After that I'll work my way up to as big an overclock as voltage and temperature allow!

You people are insane

This is your CPU
This is your CPU with vdroop
This is your CPU with LLC at high voltages

Maybe it's just my experience with Intel that says LLC is dangerous at high voltages.. maybe it's different with AMD
I'd rather just stay away from it if vdroop is not bad.
