How to overclock an Intel core i3?

Thread Starter
I'm currently building a new pc, and I'd like to overclock for gaming, as soon as I get everything running properly. I hate to ask a general question like this, because I know it depends on a lot of things like the kind of hardware I have, and what i'm trying to do.

If someone can point me to a beginners guide thread to overclocking, id really appreciate it. Or, if I need to provide more information to determine the kind of overclocking guide I would need, Thanks

Could you fill in your specs in your "My system" section? That would help probably

Please add your system details here so we can see what hardware you're using and thus help you out.

For a general idea on overclocking Intels, have a look at NoAffinity's Intel Overclocking Guide.

Im trying to play the PS2 emulator called "pcsx2" and i'd like to be able to play most if not all games at full speed. I've browsed their forums as well, and based on their recommendations, Im building a new computer to make this happen with the follow specifications:

Incomplete build:

-Antec 750 watt PSU
-Gigabyte nVidia 9800GT fanless heatsink GPU
-Corsair H50 cpu cooler (planning to lap it and add 2nd fan before installation)
-NZXT M59 case
-Intel core i3 cpu
-Gskill ripjaws 8gb ram 1600 mhz
-Noiseblocker quiet high flow case fans x3
-Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
-Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 motherboard (Coming Soon)
-22'' or 23'' widescreen 1080P HDMI monitor (Coming soon, unsure of brand yet)

I also would like to play gamecube games with the Dolphin emulator. I have on old gamecube and Zelda, but id like to put everything all in one, and get rid of that old cube

Based on these specs and what im trying to do, can anybody recommend a good website to learn about overclocking my system, or maby a few good threads?

Well, I highly doubt you'd need to overclock for what you're doing - but we are on overclock.net so you're in the right place to learn to overclock!

Did you view the thread I posted above? That's a really well made guide with all the basics there. Unfortunately I can't find any threads of Gigabyte H55 owners - the best place to learn to overclock (in my opinion) is in a thread dedicated to users of your specific motherboard. If you can't find any H55 clubs, look for a Gigabyte P55 club and try and pick up some tips and tricks from there.

It might also be worthwhile looking at the Core i3/i5/i7 Club. Good luck

really? thats what i've been hearing. id like to be able to play all those types of games in 1080P with the best graphics and sound possible, which is why I dont think that the stock 3.06 ghz will be enough, I was thinking about 3.8-4 ghz, because ive seen ppl with those overclocks being able to do exactly what I want. Before all that, I def want to get the basics down first and learn about overclocking inside out. Thanks for the link, I will study it thoroughly
