Asus uEFI showing and idle temp of 46 deg. I installed an Ultra x5 cooler and no change. Should I be checking idle temp within windows instead?

What are your load temps? That is what's important.

To much or to little thermal paste, resit your heat sink. my idle temp are around 18c at idle but thats not really important. your load temp is what matters.

Well, bios doesn't downclock the CPU with EIST and I've read that Bios has about a 30-60% load basis on the processor.

Ok, I went ahead and did this the "right way" and downloaded core temp, cpuz, and prime95.
normal clock
29-idle
50-load
asus "auto OC" @ 4.4Ghz
29-idle
60-65 load
Not sure if I was reading the wrong value in the bios or what...
CPU Temp shows 45
MB Temp shows 29
Newb mistake I guess... semms these numbers are about what everyone else is getting. Now I wonder if it was really worth buying the CPU cooler...

Don't use asus auto oc. It kills your temps. Do it properly through the bios. I made the same mistake as you did and it really put my temps over the edge.
