DVI-Dmonitor, DVI-I graphics card, ***

Thread Starter
Just bought a cable, DVI-D cable from best buy. Guy said it would work. Monitor is female DVI-D while my graphics card is DVI-I female.

So the cable is DVI-D male on both ends.

It snaps perfectly into the monitor, but it wont go in all the way in the graphics card.

What the freaking hell, stupid best buy guy, and I searched all over and no one ever answers the gd question from what I seem to find. What the heck am I doing wrong?

You're doing something wrong... Video cards have Dual-link DVI-I ports. This support single-link DVI-I, dual-link DVI-I, single-link DVI-D, dual-link DVI-D, and DVI-A.
Once again...

Ok, I re-looked at the pins on the Dynex DVI-D cable I bought from bestbuy for 29.99$, which is a ripoff by the way.

THE PINS ARE BENT ON ONE END. That's why it snapped on one end, and not the other. Fail.

Lucikly, I just talked to my brother and he gave me a DVI cable he had in his room.

I will return this crap tomorrow.

The one he gave me is single link. My res. is I use on my 23" Acer is 1920x1080 with my crossfire 4890's.

My only last question is should I just stick with single link or dual link? Which?

Thanks for your help thus far.

Single link supports up to 1920x1200 while dual link support up to 2560x1600.
So, you can stick with your current working single link DVI cable.

You dont need DVI-D dual unless you are running some extreme res or extreme refresh rate.

How ever if i were you i would buy the DVi-D Dual just beause it will be one less thing you will need to buy if you upgrade.
