Or, maybe look into smartphones that are actually good?

Your going to have to explain that, because he is looking at smartphones that are actually good...

Haha I won't. Usually though as soon as you put a sim in a iPhone a data plan will start. But to the guy who said look into good smart phones? The captivate and iPhone ARE good smart phones, the 3GS is older and the Captivate lacks flash but there's nothing else on the market really crushes them.

Yes I've gotten AT&T's "You didn't have a data plan so we added one for you" e-mail before. Never had the 3GS but I did have the 3G and I can tell you that the 4 is worlds faster. I tried Android for a week then went right back to Apple. Word of advice though, if you're going Android make sure you get at least 2.1 - anything before that kinda sucks.

Captivate's running on native 2.1 Eclair, as part of the Samsung Galaxy S series. It should be able to go 2.2 or even 2.3 with mods.

To OP, go for a Captivate.

Well, i cannot comment fully on samsung since i never owned it. Apart from those others samsung phones i touched. Worse than samsung is only motorolla i think.
iphone is a good smartphone. Took me awhile to stop laughing. Well yeah, if i would been 12 and had no computer with internet i might even believe to that seller who'll say that. Apart from epic advertisement there's nothing for that device.
All those flame wars and all bs steve gives to customers and there are still fanboys claiming it's good :/

They're almost the same actually, apart from the carriers they're in, the hardware design and some apps loaded to them. Major difference could be the Captivate's lack of camera flash from the original Galaxy S, but not really a deal-breaker. Either way, great phones.

I like the captivate hardware design over the regular SGS, but the other has a front facing camera, flash, a hardware home button, but no search button.

Haha, not one vote towards keeping the 3gs -- ok!

http://androinica.com/wp-content/upl...y-s-matrix.png

Settling with the Captivate. Hope to sell the 3GS soon! While waiting for that though... since I'm not really in the loop of smartphones, what others could I be looking at to get instead thats just as good/better/with-in price range ($200-300)?

I heard there was a GPS problem with the Captivate unless updated to froyo?
