Little help with 980x

Thread Starter
I finally got my RX240 kit in and installed it, awesome kit. So now im trying to push my 980x some. Wanting this for 24/7 use, so I thought maybe a mild 4.2 would be ok. But I cant seem to get it stable for anything, and I dont want to push the vcore too far.

I did a little quick and dirty with multi at 31 and bclk bumbed just a little to just over 4.2, started vcore at 1.35 and QPI at 1.35 and bumped up my vcore a bump at a time after each BSOD error x124. Got to 1.4v in BIOS, 1.37 in CPUZ and thought maybe I'd lower the multi and up the clk.

Right now its at 26x162, 1.4v bios 1.37v CPUZ. And still not stable.

I have the usual disabled in cpu settings. LLC set to full, as I read on another thread here.

I'm no expert at overclocking, but figured this would be easily attainable. What else should I change? Or should I just suck it up and bump it down to 4.0 and get that stable, hopefully.

Even at 1.37v my temps are constant at low-mid 50's with 100% load, but didnt think I should have to go much over 1.35v for just 4.2.

Hardware in Sig.

If you guys need any other info from me, just let me know...

Thanks in advance....

It really depends on how good the chip is you got, Maby just try getting 4GHz stable then upping it from there untl it BSOD's then up the Vcore.
Or keep upping the vcore until you get 4.2GHZ Stable.
Everybody is different but the max volts I use is the absolute Max Given by Intel, Which is 1.40v on 32nm
http://download.intel.com/design/processor/datashts/323252.pdf
But I would go as far as 1.45V, but really its up too you.

Thanks, Sir Overkill. smile.gif

When you say 1.4v, would you go by the BIOS setting or what CPUZ says?

Thnk I will bump it down to 4.0 and try to up it a little at a time then.

Try this:

Cpu vcore at 1.33v
PLL at 1.42v
CPU VTT at 1.3v
All other voltages at auto
LLC on full calibration
133 x 31
Set memory to 1600Mhz with auto timings, you can come back and adjust the timings later.
Set uncore to 2400

See if that works for you.

21@200 4.2

dram@ 2005 (stock timings 9-9-9-24 T1)

load line calibration FULL

CPU V 1.31
CPU PLL [auto]
QPI/Dram 1.28
Dram 1.6

everything else is auto or disabled (like C-state and HT) for stable OC'ing. Still currently tweaking this down a bit, I think I cant get my QPI even lower.

Does rock steady P95/lineX.

Ok, just tried 133x31, Vcore- 1.32v, QPI - 1.28v, PLL - 1.43v.

With this Linx ran for about 20min, longest I've had yet, and instead of a BSOD It stopped and just said error. I looked through the log file but doesnt give an error code. Any suggestions on which to up?

Going to try the vcore first....
