i m still wondering why exist so many different layouts around the world?

i mean german layout is quite different then others with a smal backspace
i got other exemples
the shape keys differs

Usually to fit other characters on the board. Am I right in thinking American keyboards only have half height return keys?

what do you mean by "half height"?

German's had their layout carry a small backspace because they wanted the world to know that their people do not make mistakes

How many rows of keys does return take up? Does it look like this:



When I was researching boards all US ones had a small return key whereas all British boards have it full sized.

The standard German layout has a full size backspace like other Euro layouts.



You probably saw something like a Steelseries keyboard that uses an AT style layout.

Back in the day it seemed like all the enter keys in the USA used to be the larger style... they've mostly switched do the single row ones now.
