Sapphire 6870 vs Gtx 460 Hawk T.A - Page 2

You won't be dissapointed either way to be honest, idk how loud the default ati cooler is, but the MSI card is quite silent.

Clock for clock, I doubt you will notice the difference. I've seen quite a few 6870's in the 1ghz+ range without a modified bios.

Since the 6870 appears to clock a bit higher than a 460, if you want to squeeze those few extra mhz out, that'd be the route to go.

I'm completely satisfied with my 460. I probably would be as well, with a 6870.

Maybe gtx 460 will be better choise. It's cooler, quiet, cheaper and OC well. I think that nVidi has better drivers, is this true?

Not sure if there is anything factual that says so. Aside from the few hickups I thought I had with nvidia, it wasn't the drivers, and turned out to be other hardware failing.

Some will say nvidia has better drivers, others ati.

460 1GB competes against the 6850. 6850 is even cooler running than the 460. 6870 is a slight notch above the 460 and around 470 performance, give or take.

For the noise, it depends upon the 460 you have. The EVGA 460 EE is very loud imho. However, the models with a radial fan like the Hawk blend in fairly well with the other case fans.

6850 with the radial fan is pretty darn quiet at 50% and below. 6870 will be like a 470 in terms of noise because the blower fan does not blend in as well with the rest of the case fans.

I'm not sure about that. I think the 1gb 460 is equivalent to about a 6870. Originally, the 6850 was meant for competition to the 460, but I really think the 460, OC'd, is more similar to the 6870 than the '50.

Riou, run 3dmark11 on "performance", and let me know what you get..

Riou, like I said, it's all game dependent. The 460 wins some, the 6870 wins some. Clock for clock, though, they're very similar.

We're talking about a handful of FPS clock for clock. It's not fair to compare a 972c 6870 to a 895c 460.
