Is Overclocking Celeron 420 @ 2.2 Ghz Safe??

Thread Starter
Hello there, I'm new to overclocking, and I have kind of old pc
I'd like to overclock the CPU in order to get more performance till I get a new laptop.

My system:
Mainboard : ASUS P5GC-MX
CPU: Intel Celeron 420 @ 1.6 Ghz
RAM: 512 Mb DDR2
GPU: I'm willing to buy the 9500 GT 1 Gb ( is it compatible with my mobo? )

First question: Is DDR2-800 RAM module compatible with my mobo, or I need DDR2-266/333/400 module?
Second: I need step-by-step procedure in order to overclock my cpu to get to the highest and safest speed if you please
Many thanks in advance

I haven't tried to check the temps, I'll try soon

What about my RAM question

Yes, the 9500GT will work, even if the PCI lane isn't 2.0. I don't know much about this board, but it doesn't look like it would do well on the overclocking side of things...but I doubt it will have problems getting to 2.2Ghz.

RAM is DDR2-533/667 max...well here lol.

Look on the forum for Intel Overclocking Guides also, they help alot, I'm sure they have an article on Celerons smile.gif

for cpu. if only pc. and on that budget for a 9500gt. i say dont, you dont have what it needs. as in after market fans for better air flow . after market cooler for cpu. @ that point u could of got a 40 dollar 2 core 2.6 chip.
What is the point of 9500gt just to improve performance.
5450 for $50 mite be alot better, for gpu. as its dx 11. and newer tech inside.
If you do want to push that cpu, CLEAN PC very good. Look @ temps and stress it so u know its stable. I like linx cpu stress . prime 95 and orthos good for u too.
Anyways good luck.
