Besides, it's a slippery slope. This time around, you prime some WUs. Next time, you find out the other team's passkey, and fail a few thousand WUs and don't let any of them get bonuses. Then you're installing the client on PCs you don't actually have access to.

So the guidelines are set to be more biased towards research than points for these events.
Well, from my perspective, I have been folding 24/7 all month, for the science, and it would seem like the challenge would be the excuse to pause, or prime, or do a little number-crunching and min-maxing "points" to have some fun.

I mean otherwise I am just folding 24/7, as usual, with my name on a spreadsheet saying I folded during the spreadsheets arbitrary date and time period, and .... so what? I really, seriously, am trying to understand the unwritten ethics of folding that are going on here. The answers, such as they are, that I have received thus far are not very enlightening.

Why would you go as far as to say "don't fold here" if you are pausing a WU or priming, or whatever strategy one might use. Or are you just not supposed to really have a strategy?

I also have to say your "gateway drug" argument falls flat. To compare those actions to pausing a WU is a stretch..

These are not the unwritten ethics of Folding necessarily. They are the rules agreed upon by the captains of the Chimp Challenge teams. As one of those teams, it makes sense for us to incorporate those ideals into our non-CC events too.

I am not saying don't Fold here if you're going to prime. I'm saying don't do it during the CC, and don't talk about it the rest of the time. We don't like it, but we can't force you to accept it.

And what "gateway drug" argument?
