Should I get 64bit or 32 bit I was thinking 32bit might perform a little better? yes/no?
Please consult my rig if you want to make a suggestion.

linux is supposed to be better in 32 bit. 64 bit is for advanced users that know what they're doing. With some tweaks 64 Bit Ubuntu Kicks ***

you get the Imac working?

For 99% of users pro is just plain not worth the extra, home premium does everything you'll ever need it to.
32bit linux *is* a bit faster than 64bit, but the difference is small, and with 4GB of memory, you really need 64bit, or at least a kernel compiled with large memory options on 32bit.
