Are there any fan controllers that read temperatures directly from the motherboard?

Are there fan controllers or temperature sensors that, say, plugs into internal USB to read CPU core temperatures and other temperatures directly off the motherboard? So that thermal probes/sensors are not necessary.

No, there isnt anything like you said. Although the thermal sensors that come with fan controllers are fairly accurate if installed correctly.

They are accurate, but I'd prefer core temperature readings directly from the motherboard.

This feature is typically only found on server grade motherboards, and very expensive.

For us average joes, this is about the closest thing to doing what you want.

Smart Way Controlling of all Fans & Airflow. The Rheosmart 6 Fan Controller is designed to make any existing 3-pin fan automatically regularized by the PWM signal from the Motherboard! With six independent channels at a maximum of 30W/channel, a wide selection of fans can be supported.
