Crooked Heatsink

Thread Starter
Yesterday I was tidying up my wires in my computer (specs below), when I noticed the heatsink is crooked a bit, from the left to right it's about a 1/4 inch.
My temperatures are fine and my system is stable, but in all likelihood I will probably try and re-set it. Should I take out the entire motherboard, or do this with the motherboard still installed in the case?

I'll upload pics when I get home from work.

Sometimes I feel lazy and I just do it with the motherboard still inside, just a matter of how much time you've got. When I take out the motherboard I just clean the whole computer XD

If your PC case has an access hole for the CPU back side then by all means do it with the board in the PC

This way there is less risk of knock the heat sink askew when putting the board back in

Hmm, I'm not sure. I have a Lian-Li PC-K58, pic below:

fC9IZ.jpg

Are you referring to that large hole at the upper-left? All I see there is the backplate.

What if the entire CPU is still being covered by the heatsink, is it still necessary to fix it? I'm not lazy, but this was my first computer build and I don't want to break anything if I can help it. Thanks for the help.

Yes the large hole. Also, worst case scenario your mobo is a little warped but cant be sure till you take it apart.

BTW nice case

Just twist it, I had that HSF and did that no problems, if it's not crooked but shifted foget it, it's fine.

There are some mb's that have screwholes that are rotated about 5-10 degrees to allow different kinds of heatsinks to fit. Do you have one of those?
