vcore saftey i7 860

ok the intel data sheets say the absolute max for lynfield chips is 1.4 vcore. but on other forums i have read when the 860's first came out the data sheets used to say 1.5x was the absolute max vcore. it would make sense because the datasheet is labeled for all lynnfield processors.

so im asking, what is safe for everyday use? im already 1 notch below 1.4 just to maintain my 4ghz overclock (i turned off llc and had to increase the vcore substantially to maintain stability)

i think they revised it.

just dont go over 1.4 and your safe. or if you have good cooling you can go a little over it. at own risk

well if it was at 1 point 1.5 that means that intel at one point that it was safe to run at less than 1.5. i wonder why they revised it. was it because of the new chips they had come out with? is going over 1.4 for everyday use going to kill my cpu?

stay under 1.4v and your good.

You should be able to hit around 4ghz on 1.35v easy.
try ht on and off. off will require less volts.

maybe coz newer chips stock voltage increased(maybe im wrong don't bite me...).....foe eg mine runs at a whopping 1.27 volt at stock
and the lowest and max voltage are .9 to 1.35...thats at stock(with turbo and ht on)....i think i got bad chip...but right now not overclocking so fine......but it has one big drawback--at stock my fully loaded i7 crosses 90 degrees when 100% stressed......
tried updating mobo bios but to no avail......

REALLY?

Mine hits 1.18v sometime 1.2v stock.
And hits .89v on idle
I also stock voltage overclocked all cores to 3.5ghz lol

reapply thermal paste with the pea/rice grain method.

Its because of your chips default voltage for sure.

Go in your bios and cap the voltage at 1.2v but don't disable any power saving features or it won't drop any lower on idle.

See if that is stable with prime95 on a max heat run.

just got your pm. Idk what else you can do. Get a decent air cooler, or corsair h50 or h70. That will keep your temps down low

my stock vid on the 860 is 1.175. at 4ghz with ht on i need 1.39375(llc off) to maintain stability. thats 1 notch under 1.4. im at 1.40625 now at 4.1ghz. im running prime as we speak so far so good. i dont think i will go much higher than this without turning off ht though. i really dont want to go above spec.
