The DDR3 Kit you're using now will fit Sandy Bridge like a glove.
You will have one extra stick, but it will work. You can keep the extra stick if you like, in case one goes bad, or sell it. Or buy one more identical stick and fill your boards slots. But there's no need to buy new RAM!
EDIT: Still doesn't mean SB is a reasonable upgrade to Nehalem, though..
