i7-950/Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R - Overclocking help! (Weird temp problems to)

Thread Starter
Ok, I'm at 3630mhz on my i7-950... but for the love of god, I can't get it stable ANY higher. Any ideas? Also, I think there is a temperature problem... SpeedFan reads okay temperatures but one other program adds 20c onto it. Speedfan reads my voltages wrong though (-1.33v on the -12v and 3.46v on the +12? ***? (multimeter reads them fine though).

Same with my current speeds... CPU-z shows my clock to be 3630mhz but other programs show it to be 2.9ghz or similar?. WHAT?

So any help with this? Specs in signature. Bios stuff:

Clock Ratio: 22x
Uncore Clock Ratio: 20x
Bclk: 165
SPD: 8.0

Uncore Voltage: 1.3 (Stock = 1.21875)
GPI/VTT Voltage: 1.235 (Stock = 1.175 iirc)
Dram Voltage (see below): 1.66v (Stock = 1.5v)

The RAM I have is 1.6v. A tutorial said to put it at 1.66. I think something is wrong there which may be messing things up. I've incremented everything to the max (except some settings which need certain values) in the RAM timings (or something, the settings which are four letters).

HELP!

start with this:

-use an odd CPU multiplier, like 23 or 21. They are more stable for overclocking then even multi
-lower your uncore ratio to 16x, it only needs to be twice the memory multiplier
-increase QPI/VTT to around 1.28

this should help a lot

^This, also make sure your QPI multiplier is at the lowest your mobo will allow.

It should be called QPI link speed on your BIOS.

I think I have that set to auto

is that fine? iirc there is only 3 values in it

edit: no, it is greyd out and set to 5.something ghz. there is an option above it with 3 multipliers in and some "slow" option and "auto". I have it set to auto.

No, you want it set to the lowest it can go (I think its x16), this will make your QPI more stable without causing a bottleneck.

EDIT: slow and auto are the only options? What is the option called?

nah there is 3 other values which are like x64 and x72 and x86 or something... You have the motherboard, can't you find out yourself?

ok 21x multiplier and all the things you've said... 175 on the bclk... my PC is lagging (moving mouse) a little (short bursts of lag) when running intelburntest... which is taking longer than normal. 78c on "high"... that bad? 3675mhz

edit; ****, just realised I'm running BOTH prime95 and intelburntest at the same time. ok, lets try again xD

edit2; intelburntest is running fine now, and prime95 completed 8 tests then started again and did one test (8k or something) and then I stopped it... so I guess time to increase the bclock again?

I think it's called "QPI Clock ratio" and it should be set at 36x, if this is set on auto it will mess up your overclock for sure. In the BIOS, it's right above the "uncore clock ratio" option
