Couple of questions regarding my EVGA 470

Thread Starter
So my 470 is at 1.087v @800/1600/1850. Stable so far However, while playing Metro 2033 a while ago, the temperature peaks at 87 Celsius. When gaming, the temperature ranges from 80-85c. The question, is my temperature safe? I have User-defined fan manual control. So the fan speed increases to 80-85%. Am I shortening the lifespan of my GPU and the fans of my GPU?

When I overclock really high I just leave the fan at 80%+
You cant even hear it with earphones on, or if you have loud speakers.
Although GPU's were designed for extreme tempearatures, the fan should be ok for a few years.

For my knowledge, that is still very safe for that card.

Ofcourse you could try to change thermal paste, which in 4xx -series is horrible.

I was hoping that my GPU could last 2-3 years. Is that possible? Since the temperature is fine; how about the fans and their lifespan? Afterburner automatically raises the fan speed to 80% and gaming then decrease into 50% while just surfing the web. Is that okay?

They are designed to withstand that level of heat.

Custom fan profiles are your friend if you want less heat and more noise.

I dont think you should worry much about the fans, companies that sell GPU's test them so they work for a very long time. My GPU in my sig has been overclocked for almost 2 years and she is a trucker, and so is here fan.

My 470 reached 98c, when I had it on auto-fan, so you're more than O.K.

thats a really high voltage for that clock. have you tried lowering the core voltage?

What are the cons of high voltage? I maxed out the voltage in MSI Afterburner
