Cheap Metal Brake??

Thread Starter
I need to make some 90, 15, 30, and 45 degree bends in 6061 alloy (1mm and 2mm thicknesses).

I would like to know if anyone has ever made a DIY (Hand) Metal Brake before?

I would rather build a quick and dirty one for now than invest in an industrial one.

Any experienced modders have some input or ideas?

Thanks!!

A table top, some 2x4's or any size doesn't really matter, some C Clamps and some patience.

they will never have as small of a radius of a real brake but its the best i can see someone doing without spending a ton of money

I found an 18" hand operated Metal Brake at for less than $50

18" Bending Brake

I think this should do nicely? Anyone have any thoughts on this one?

I was thinking about attaching it to the B&D Workbench SmasherBasher recommended... I could use the step to gain extra leverage. Also, the Brake has a sharp edge to give a tight radius.

It really seems this tool would be perfect for case modders. What do you think?

Harbor Freight is my go-to for cheap tools. It looks like there are two locations in Rochester, so you could easily special order this and pick it up at either store. Store Finder link

I actually found that after I posted, but only the 18". Great find!

I think I will do that. HF is only 10 minutes from my house.

How long does it take for the ship to store feature?

You are probably going to have a bit of trouble bending 2mm alu with those flimsy brakes.
