Inspiron 1525 Booting Issues

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 that I am working on for a friend. Let me start off by saying, her issues started after she dropped the notebook. I am thinking there is physical damage somewhere that is causing the issues, but I want more opinions.

When I first got it from her, I could not get it to boot into Vista, nor could I get it to go into Windows Repair. I could not even boot Windows Repair with the Dell provided CD. I ran the Dell DST and all of the hardware passed the tests. After trying many frustrating steps, I removed the Hard Drive and plugged it into my desktop. I was able to boot right into Vista with no issues. I transferred all of her pictures, documents, and music on to my external, so I could reformat.

After the transfer, I used the Dell disk to wipe the partitions on the Hard Drive, then put the Hard Drive back in the laptop. I was then able to boot right into the Dell disk with no issue, and reinstall the OS. Everything went off without a hitch, and I installed all of the drivers with the driver disk, etc. Well, the laptop is now doing exactly what it was doing before. It just refuses to boot into Vista, nor can I get it to go into Repair with the disk. Also, it randomly shuts itself down without warning. It is not getting hot, the battery is functioning fine, and it's even plugged into AC, which is also working fine.

I again, removed it from the laptop, and was able to boot right into Vista with my desktop. For the sake of it, I hooked the Hard Drive to another desktop I have in the house, and it has no issues booting into Vista. I've ran six hours of memtest on the laptop, and it has not produced any errors. I've also ran a Hitachi HDD test, which it passes as well. The only thing left at this point is the motherboard. I am thinking this is the likely culprit. Also, just in case I forgot to mention it, these issues never occurred until after it was dropped. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

EDIT: I am also not able to boot into Vista using any version of Safe Mode, VGA Mode, or Last Known Good Configuration.

Pull the battery and just run it off of the power adapter, and see how that goes. It sounds like there's a power or thermal issue with the laptop. I suspect the motherboard as well.

When you say you could boot to it from a desktop, was that as a primary drive, or secondary? You could try and fdisk the MBR, but that may wipe out any special dell partitions on the drive. That wouldn't help with the power issues, but it could fix boot issues if the MBR is hosed.

I ran it without the battery for about an hour, but still had the same issues the entire time. When I ran it from both desktops, I ran it as primary, but performed no installation features etc, unless it was in the laptop. Also, that was something I forgot to mention, but a co-worker had recommended I fdisk the master boot record. I did do that, along with wiping the entire drive clean. The Dell disk re-installs all of the special partitions that Dell includes. Everything is still the same at this point. I can't think of anything else it could be, other than the board.
