Is Civilation V any good?

Thread Starter
I got my i7 960 from Intel, and they gave me a free Steam key for Civilization V. I've never been a RTS fan, but people keep telling me its good, but I rather sell it or trade it somewhere, and get something I'll know I like, but I'd like to hear other peoples opinion on whether I should or just stick to my guns, puns intended.

Civilization V is a solid game. It is more accessible and probably more enjoyable for people new to the series. Most complaints myself and others have revolve around what Civilization IV was and how the game was changed. Although some changes are great, others simplify the experience.

BTW, Civilization is turn based, not real-time.

Someone said Civ5 wasn't as good as 4, but i'm not sure. I recently bought 4 in the Steam sale and loved it.

If you don't want it, could I please have it. My GF and I enjoy playing civ

My friend who played 4 a lot bought this when it came out and said he much rather play 4, something about multiplayer not being as good.

There is a demo for it I believe but that only has limited things in the game most likely and doesn't have any patches.

It is pretty different from most RTS games that come out (such as starcraft). It is more or less a turn based strategy game like risk.

I have it. Spent 200+ hours on Steam so far with it. It does have some balance exploits, AI is a little wonky and some CIV's are way more powerful than others.

But I love it. The soundtrack alone is worth the price of admission. Most complaints I've read on civfanatics revolves around "why didnt they make Civ IV part II?" instead of going in a new direction.

One friend really likes it, but others say it's worse than Civ4 and just has better graphics. My friend who like it would definitely agree it's a simpler, less in-depth game however. I have Civ4 (recently acquired) and would recommend it highly.

The game is awesome. Like people have said, different from Civ4, but still great none-the-less. I am also a fan of strategy games though...

It's meh.

At first I liked it quite a bit. The combat system is engaging and the first play through was really fun.

I haven't even finished my 2nd game though. The game is shallow to me. The AI is simplistic, and besides building and moving army units and upgrading cities and tiles I just don't see where the strategy comes into play.

I know my opinion goes against the majority, but at the end of the day this isn't a game you want to sink 1000 hours into like civ4 was.

If you have never played Civ before you will love it. If you are a Civ veteran and played the other 4 a lot and love them you will be somewhat dissapointed, I was.

I feel the same way, I played Civ4 for like 500+ hours. I played Civ5 for less than 50. The game itself runs like garbage too.
