I think I'm crazy.

Thread Starter
So the setup in my sig isn't even in my grubby little hands yet and I'm already thinking of expanding. I'd like to pick up a CPU cooler this coming week and I'm hoping to snag one at CompUsa locally. The Noctua DH14 looks to be pretty universally recommended and applauded, should this thing be at the top of my list? I've seen where it has some issues with memory clearance, does anyone have experience with my style of mushkin that can chime in?

Secondly I'm thinking of ordering another GTX 470 to keep mine company. Would my current PSU be able to take the load? That will be my deciding factor at the moment. As always, thanks so much for the help.

it's an addiction, you're not alone, wait til you get into water cooling lol

your psu is fine for 470 sli, and the nh-d14 is $85 shipped at amazon
post #3 of 10
I can't speak for the Noctua cooler, but I can speak for the GTX 470. I think it would be a great idea to pick up a second one (they scale in the 90-110% range) and YES, your PSU is more than enough to handle it (they consume at MAX load--un OC'ed-- 215 watts).

But in terms of a good cooler, YES, I recommend getting one. Overclocking your CPU will make a significant difference in your overall performance.

From what I can see, good build BTW thumb.gif

I'm not sure about the second 470, but yes, you should get an aftermarket cooler. As far as I've seen/heard, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus is probably the best bang for the buck. I've heard really good things about the Noctua as well, but unless you're going to be doing some pretty intensive stuff (such as 24/7 folding on a big overclock), there's probably no reason to spend three times as much for it.

I recommend a Scythe Mugen 2 Rev b heat sink. I did some research before I bought mine and it performs a bit better than the DH14 and is cheaper.

The NH-D14 is very good when it comes to air cooling, one of the best.

I'd see how you like one GTX470, and if it's enough for you, then no need to upgrade, but that PSU will be perfectly fine for it if you do decide you want another. thumb.gif

Thanks for the link and the advice guys. My parts are supposed to be in on Tuesday so I was going to try and pick up the cooler locally so I don't have to wait to put it together. I can get up and running on the single gpu while I wait for the other to come in but I'd hate to install the stock cooler and then redo it a few days later.
