Should I upgrade, should I wait?

Thread Starter
I am very happy with my system and have no problems with it, but I am on old technology and am wondering if it is worth an upgrade.

I have my 1055T overclocked stable at 4ghz which I am very happy about but it is on an AM2+ board and with 1066 DDR2 ram, which I have to run at 1000 for it to be stable.

I was just wondering if it is worth me upgrading to an AM3 board and DDR3 ram (especially as ram is so cheap now) or waiting to see what the next generation brings? Would I have any tangible improvement?

Any ideas are welcome and most appreciated.

If you sell what you currently have you can probably get AM3 + DDR3 for less then $100.

Bulldozer wont be coming out for the next at least 3 months and it could be as long as 6 until it does come out. I think you should do it.

I would wait.. your really not going to see a big improvement. I am in the same boat as you too.. save the money and get bulldozer later this year.

If you upgraded to a mobo that supported DDR3, you'd have to get 3 sticks to take advantage of DDR3. I'd say, practically, you wouldn't notice a difference. Depends what you do a daily basis though.

LOL fail post?

I think the difference is noticeable. Any ways you are going to need DDR3 for bull dozer. So get a cheaper board and splurge on the ram is my suggestion

nah dont, wait til AM3+ comes out then you'll be bulldozer ready for the future

there's little-to-no real world difference between ddr2 and ddr3

He's got a point, everyone has. Stay away from spending on ram ( I just bought a 4gb XMS3 corasir 1600cl9 4x1 kit today for the fun of it -dirt cheap @ 49 dollars HERE -but no major improvement.. _ not worth it IMO) only benches are better- the 2-3 fps gain is not worth it tight now . And u'd rather future proof yourself with AM3+ boards when they come out. Not that BD wouldn't work with current AM3, but sum thing will be amiss .

BD will support JDECs till 2K MHz. By that time 2K will become mainstream and so good ram, and the AM3+ socket will become available together.

But hes going to have to buy AM3 Ram for Bull dozer.

He can get a Mobo that will support his hexcore and all for $50 which he can use as a temp until bulldozer comes around. I would spend the money...
